One of the biggest events held at Turner Fenton Secondary School took place on April 10th-11th, 2014. Culturefest sparks Turner Fenton’s cultural spirit, bringing the Trojan family together in numerous ways. This year, the story chosen portrayed a kingdom dance off with various bachelors from kingdoms around the world, where the winner would be rewarded with the king’s daughter’s hand in marriage. Many of the performances were astounding and the crowd never failed to cheer on the performers.

Dinkar Mangla, who took part in the Mashup by playing the tabla, commented on how “the crowd was really overwhelming”. It is true; the crowd was insane and it was natural to feel nervous in front of the audience. However, Sharang Sharma a performer in waltz and mambo said that being nervous “is nothing as long as you know your stuff well enough… the audience [was] so supportive, [that] you don’t get nervous”. Performances of all kinds were incorporated into this year’s lineup. Abeera Shahid , who participated in the spoken word, declared, “I really loved the range of performances… I am happy to have been a part of the show”. Turner Fenton’s SAC President, Sahil Datta, who played the servant boy and the princess’s secret love in the storyline, admitted that “[Culturefest] was an amazing experience… It brought the school closer and it gave the students of Turner Fenton an experience they will never forget”.

Culturefest really is something that brings together the entire school and so much hard work is put into this event. The students, the teachers and even the custodians have all put in countless hours to make the show as memorable as it can be. One of the Culfurefest executives, Kanwarpreet Karwal, announced that, “I fell in love with the atmosphere of Culturefest: the butterflies before performing, the smiles, the enthusiasm, everything”. Culturefest has brought nothing but positive feedback; it was definitely the event of the year! A huge thanks once again to all the staff and students who participated and made our time worthwhile.
