April Sports Update
Manan Ahuja

After a slow start in March for Turner Fenton Athletics, April had much more to offer. First up, we will begin with news regarding our Varsity Badminton Team. Our Badminton Team had exceptional results for the Turner Fenton Tournament back in March in the Tourney Silver and Black. Most of the Turner Fenton participants made it to the quarter and semi-finals in their respective flights, with special consideration going to Ashie Dalal in Grade 10. She went on her way to win Flight A, going undefeated in the Girls Singles. Destiny Udofe and Purav Shah also had an exceptional day at the tournament, placing 3rd in Flight B for Boys Doubles..

Let's stay on the topic of Badminton and discuss the ROPSSAA Qualifiers Tournament. Once again, Ashie Dalal played remarkably, going undefeated to qualify for Girls Singles. Purav Shah also went undefeated to qualify for Boys Singles. Viyasavy Keetheeswaran with her partner Aysha Malik made the finals to advance to ROPSSAA as Girls Doubles. Overall Purav, Aysha and Viyasavy finished in the Top 6 and Ashie finished 3rd overall. Congratulations to all of them for an amazing performance!

Finally we will end off with news regarding the Boys and Girls Soccer teams. Our Senior Boys Soccer team had a great start to the season, beating David Suzuki 3-0, and controlling the possession 70% of the time. Dominating performance boys, and keep it up for the rest of the season! They continued this effort in their next game by ending the game in a 1-1 tie against a very strong opponent in Mississauga Secondary School. Regretfully, our Senior Girls did not have the same success as they lost their opening game to David Suzuki 1-4. Have no fear, as the girls bounced back in their next game! Our Senior Girls' Soccer team crushed Mississauga 3-0, in which Dilman Boparai scored 2 out of the 3 goals. Great effort, Trojans.

Furthermore, some exciting games have been taking place for the Boys' Rugby team. First off, we'll begin with their news regarding last week's tournament, in which they showed great resilience. They started off the tournament on a low point, losing 0-17 to Forest Hill. An attempt to use this defeat as motivation and to bounce back against North Park was unfortunately spoiled by a questionable call by the referee, causing them another lost of 7-10. They tried to end their tournament on a high note by facing Forest Hill again, looking for some revenge, but sadly, lost 0-7. But fear not Trojans, for our Boys' Rugby Team did tie their regular season game last week against David Suzuki, at 12-12. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Next up, we have our annual news regarding Turner's Co-ed Volleyball Team. The team played two tournaments over the past month, both located at Rick Hansen. This co-ed team had excellent results as they won 3 out of the 5 games at both tournaments, finishing the volleyball season on a positive note.
